Check In Volunteer

You are the face of our ministry.

You are the first person new families encounter and how you interact with those families has a direct connection on whether on not they stay with us. The national average for a first-time family to return for a second visit is 7%. To help new families feel more welcomed, we focus on 4 specific things:

smooth check-in process.

The check-in process should be simple for new and returning families. New families will be partnered with a Check-In Volunteer who will have them fill out a ‘Family Registration Card’, child name tags, and parent pick-up receipts. Returning families can check-in at a kiosk located at one of the white cabinets using their phone number.

comfort of parents and children.

A great way to make both parents and children comfortable in our ministry is by making it feel safe and personal. Share with new families some of our safety procedures (ex: cleanings of classrooms, volunteers background checked, safety team patrolling campus, etc.). It is also helpful for you to introduce new families to their classroom teachers. After registering the new family, walk them all to their appropriate rooms and introduce them to the trusted adult who will be caring for their child during the service.

friendly and knowledgeable staff.

New families want to feel welcomed by a volunteer who displays confidence in their actions. We encourage check-in volunteers to begin learning the names of the families so they can be greeted in a personal way. If you don’t know the answer to a question a family asks, simply say, “I don’t know that answer but let me find that out.” You can radio for assistance and the Like Kids Director will come to assist you.

integration into the new life family.

We not only want new families to return to campus, but we want them to feel welcomed into our New Life Family. When you see these new families around campus in the weeks to come, we encourage you to greet them and get to know them more. Invite them to get connected on campus in different ways (ex: Missional Communities, Service Projects, Special Classes, or serving on compus)

Tutorial Video.

This video will guide you through each step of the check-in process. You may want to watch it a few times to let the information sink in. In you have any questions or need any clarification, please ask the Children’s Director.
