Serving Questions

For some of us, our teen years were the best days of our lives. For others of us, it was just the opposite. Whatever experience you had, serving alongside a junior high or high school student could be an amazing opportunity for you. If your experience was a positive one, you can probably think of some adult in your life who made a difference, who took the time to invest in a relationship with you and show that you mattered to them.

Could you imagine being the change in the life of a young teen? Many junior high students are crying out, waiting for someone to reach out and show them that they are valuable. You could be that person.

Take a moment and look at some of the questions below to find out more about serving in the student ministry at New life. If you're interested in being a part of our ministry, email today and he will let you know what to do next.

WHY SERVE?

Deep within all of us is a desire to make a difference, to trade in the American dream for something bigger than mere comfort. There may be no greater bondage than to reduce ourselves to small thinking and apathy. Serving teaches us to focus not on ourselves, but on others. It changes us by transforming our hearts and causing us to be broken for the things that God cares about.

WHERE DO I START TO GET CONNECTED?

Everyone can do something to serve our community, our city, and our world! Not because we need positions to be filled, but because everyone needs to live fulfilled lives by using our unique personalities, strengths, and gifts to care for and encourage others.

WOULD I REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

You were created to make a difference, so yes! God has placed you on this earth to do the hard things that cause a stirring in the hearts of students. Your uniqueness, your heart, your passion, your willingness to serve others, and allow others to serve you, regardless of where you are in your spiritual journey, is welcomed.

HOW MUCH OF A COMMITMENT DO I NEED TO MAKE?

It all depends on where you serve. There are serving roles that require weekly or bi-weekly commitments, and involve your time for as little as 30 minutes and as much as 3-4 hours, depending on what your role is.

HOW DO I DECIDE WHERE TO SERVE?

We are a passions-based ministry, so discovering where you will be most fulfilled is very important to us. We want you to be ENERGIZED by your involvement in our ministry! When you inquire about serving in our ministry, you will go through a process that will help us to place you where your skills match with your greatest passions.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR SERVING?

First, you will need to submit an application. You can pick this up in the Student Ministries Room at the welcome table when you walk in. After this, you will have a short "getting to know you" phone conversation, then you'll fill out a simple survey to discover your gifts and passions. After this, we will discuss with you where the best "fit" is. Once you have determined a role and trained, you're good to go!
